INTRODUCTION OF INDONESIA SEA PORT/DEPARTURE TAX

With effect from 16 Dec 2006, the Indonesian Department of Transportation will introduce a Sea Port / Departure Tax of S$2 for every passenger (including infants) departing from Bendar Bintan Telani (BBT) Ferry Terminal at Bintan Resorts.

While this tax implementation brings BBT (which has been exempted from this tax since 1994) on par with all other Ferry Terminals, this rate is lower than those charges in other ports in Batam and Bintan.

Travel Agents (TA), Resort Operators (RO) and passengers who have already purchased tickets or are in possession of tickets and e-tickets, will pay the Departure Tax at the Resort before departure. This can be done wither through the concierge at the hotels / golf courses or at the ticketing office in BBT. Passengers who use the VIP lounge at BBT can pay the Departure Tax through the staff at the lounge. We however discourage individual payment at BBT ticketing office just before departure as this will slow the departure processing of passengers, hence ferry departure times.

Bintan Resort Ferries (BRF) will commence selling tickets and e-tickets which will include the Departure Tax with effect from 16 Dec 06. In other words BRF will collect the Departure Tax at point of sale on behalf of the relevant local Indonesian Authorities in Bintan Resorts. Therefore, with effect from 16 Dec 06, TAs, ROs and passengers will have to pay an additional S$2 on top of the current ticket rates, when purchasing tickets.
